Pineapple (fresh or canned)

🌱 Vegetarian 🌿 Vegan

Description

Pineapple (fresh or canned) has a distinct sweet and sour flavor with tropical freshness, and an intensely yellow flesh with a woody, spiky skin in the case of fresh fruit; canned pieces are soft, often in light syrup or juice. It is a source of vitamin C, manganese, fiber, and the enzyme bromelain, which aids digestion and has anti-inflammatory properties; pineapple juice has more sugar and fewer active ingredients after processing if syrup has been added. In the kitchen, pineapple is suitable for salads, salsas, grilled dishes, pizzas, desserts, and cocktails, as well as for marinades due to its sweetness and enzymes that tenderize meat. Store fresh pineapple at room temperature for a short time, and after cutting, keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3–4 days. Store canned goods in a dry place, and after opening, transfer the contents to a container and use within 2–3 days.
