Chickpeas (drained)
Description
Chickpeas have a mild, slightly nutty flavor and a creamy texture. After draining, the balls are firm, light beige in color, and have a slightly grainy structure, making them a versatile ingredient both in mashed form and as whole grains. They are a rich source of plant protein and fiber, providing folic acid, iron, magnesium, and minerals with a relatively low fat content, which supports satiety, stabilizes blood sugar levels, and promotes heart and digestive health. They work perfectly in hummus, salads, soups, stews, curries, falafel, and baked goods, easily combining with vegetables, herbs, and spices. After draining, it’s advisable to rinse them to reduce the salt content from the can, store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3–4 days, or freeze for about 3 months.
