Instant coffee (powder)
Description
Instant coffee powder is a fine, dark brown powder with an intense, recognizable aroma of roasted coffee and a flavor ranging from bitter-nutty to slightly acidic, depending on the variety and roast level. It contains caffeine, antioxidants (including chlorogenic acids), and virtually no fat or carbohydrates in a serving of drink made from just coffee, which may support alertness and increase metabolism in the short term, although effects are individual. In the kitchen, the powder is great for quickly preparing drinks, milk coffees, and iced coffees, as well as desserts, cakes, ice creams, sauces, and marinades, where it adds depth of flavor. It should be stored in an airtight, dry, and dark container away from heat and moisture sources; once opened, it is best used within a few months to maintain flavor intensity.
