Fresh plums (ripe)
Description
Fresh ripe plums have a deep purple-blue skin and juicy flesh ranging from light orange to red; the flavor is sweet and tart with intense honey notes and a slightly astringent finish, making them both refreshing and aromatic. They are low in calories, rich in fiber, vitamins C and K, potassium, and antioxidants (including anthocyanins), which support digestion, regulate blood sugar levels, positively affect the cardiovascular system, and have potential anti-inflammatory properties. In the kitchen, they are suitable for both desserts and salads, as well as savory dishes — they work wonderfully in compotes, jams, baking, meat sauces, and smoothies. To maintain freshness, unripe plums ripen at room temperature, while ripe ones should be stored in the refrigerator without washing them first; they can also be pitted and frozen or processed into preserves, which extends their shelf life.
