Orange blossom water
Description
Orange blossom water is a clear, lightly perfumed hydrosol with a delicate floral aroma and a subtle citrus note and sweetness. Its taste is subtle and refreshing, and it has an intense fragrance despite the small amount used in dishes, so it is best to use it sparingly. Nutritionally, it is practically water with a small amount of volatile essential oils, without significant calories or macronutrients, but it is traditionally attributed with soothing effects on the digestive system and calming properties during stress. In the kitchen, it is primarily used in desserts and baked goods — it perfumes creams, puddings, syrups, cakes, and Middle Eastern sweets, as well as cocktails and teas; it also pairs well with rice and light salads. It should be stored in a sealed bottle, in a cool and dark place, and after opening, it is best kept in the refrigerator and used within 6–12 months.
