Pumpkin purée
Description
Pumpkin purée is a smooth, silky mass with an intense carrot-orange color and a mildly sweet, slightly nutty flavor with earthy notes. The consistency depends on the degree of grinding and the added water or fat, making it a versatile ingredient for both creamy soups and baked goods. Nutritionally, the purée is rich in beta-carotene (a precursor of vitamin A), vitamins C and E, fiber, and potassium, while being relatively low in calories, which supports eye health, immunity, and digestion. In the kitchen, it works well in soups, sauces, risottos, curries, as a base for creams, filling for pies, or porridge for infants; it pairs wonderfully with spices like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, herbs, coconut milk, cheese, and butter. Purée can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3–4 days or frozen in portions for up to 3 months; after thawing, it is best to heat it gently.
