Chocolate chips
Description
Chocolate chips are small, flat pieces of chocolate with a shiny, smooth surface and an intense cocoa aroma; they can taste sweet or slightly bitter depending on the cocoa content, adding a pleasant, melting texture to desserts. As an ingredient, they are convenient in form and evenly distribute chocolate flavor in baked goods and sweet snacks. Nutritionally, chocolate chips provide energy from fats and sugars, and versions with higher cocoa content contain antioxidants (flavonoids) that support heart health and mood, although they are calorie-dense and should be consumed in moderation. They pair well with cookies, muffins, brownies, ice cream, muesli, and yogurts, as well as serving as decoration or an ingredient in chocolate glazes and sauces. They should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from odors; when stored for longer periods, it is advisable to avoid moisture and drastic temperature changes to prevent "bloom" and loss of aroma.
