Chickpeas (cooked, drained)
Description
Cooked and drained chickpeas have a creamy, slightly nutty flavor and a light yellow to beige color, with round, slightly flattened seeds that are firm but easily mashable after cooking. They are a rich source of plant protein, fiber, complex carbohydrates, and micronutrients such as folic acid, iron, magnesium, and potassium; regular consumption promotes satiety, stabilizes blood sugar levels, supports heart health, and aids gut function. Chickpeas are suitable for hummus, salads, stews, curries, soups, falafels, vegetable roasts, and as an addition to grain bowls or spreads. After draining, it is best to store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days, and in portions for freezing for up to 2–3 months; before storing, it is advisable to cool them down and drain well to avoid excess moisture.
