Description
Canned chickpeas (drained) have a creamy, light beige skin, a round shape, and a soft yet firm interior; the flavor is mildly nutty and slightly buttery, making them a neutral base for spices. They are a good source of plant protein and fiber, providing complex carbohydrates, folic acid, iron, magnesium, and potassium, while having a relatively low fat content. Regular consumption of chickpeas can support feelings of fullness, stabilize blood glucose levels, and positively impact heart health and gut microbiome. In the kitchen, drained chickpeas work well in hummus, salads, curries, soups, spreads, roasted as a crunchy snack, or used in falafel and casseroles.
