Description

Crème fraîche is a thick, creamy sour cream with a mildly tangy, buttery flavor and a silky, light cream consistency. It contains relatively high fat content (usually 30–40%), making it calorie-dense, but it also provides protein, calcium, and fat-soluble vitamins, including vitamin A; versions with live probiotic cultures may support gut flora. Due to its rich flavor, it promotes satiety, but it should be used in moderation. In the kitchen, crème fraîche works well as a thickener and an addition to sauces, soups, vegetable and meat dishes, as well as desserts, and it can also be used as a substitute for sour cream due to its stability when heated. Store it in the refrigerator tightly sealed, preferably at around 4°C, and consume within a few days after opening; freezing is possible, but it deteriorates the texture.
