Description
Canned black beans are small, shiny, almost black beans with a creamy texture when cooked and a mild, earthy-nutty flavor with a slight sweetness. They are a source of plant protein and fiber, contain iron, folic acid, magnesium, and antioxidants (anthocyanins), and with low fat content, they help regulate blood sugar levels, support digestion, and promote heart health. In the kitchen, they are suitable for soups, chili, salads, salsas, tacos, burritos, spreads, and vegetarian patties, and pair well with rice, corn, and Mexican spices. Before use, it is advisable to drain and rinse them to reduce salt content. Unopened cans should be stored in a cool, dry place until the expiration date, and after opening, transfer to an airtight container, store in the refrigerator for 3–4 days, or freeze in portions for 2–3 months.
