Chocolate chips
Description
Chocolate chips are small, shiny pieces of chocolate with an intense cocoa aroma and a sweet-bitter flavor note; they come in milk, dark, and semi-sweet varieties, usually shaped like flat discs with a smooth surface, adding a pleasant texture and color to baked goods. They are a convenient way to introduce chocolate flavor without the need to temper chocolate bars. Nutritionally, chips provide calories mainly from fat and sugar, and in dark varieties, also antioxidants (flavonoids) and minerals like magnesium and iron; consumed in moderation, they can support mood and provide a quick source of energy. They are typically used in cookies, muffins, pancakes, dessert decorations, and for melting into toppings. They should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from strong odors; in hot climates, it is advisable to keep them in the refrigerator to prevent condensation by allowing them to reach room temperature before use.
