Kirsch liqueur (optional, for soaking)

🌱 Vegetarian

Description

Kirsch liqueur is a clear, colorless cherry distillate with an intense, dry aroma of fresh and slightly tart cherries, complemented by a subtle hint of pits. Its taste is clean, sharper than sweet fruit liqueurs, with a distinct dried finish, making it ideal for soaking cakes and adding depth to desserts. Nutritionally, kirsch primarily provides calories from alcohol and contains few vitamins or minerals; trace phenolic compounds from the fruit may have antioxidant properties, and moderate alcohol consumption is sometimes described as a digestive aid. In the kitchen, kirsch is used for soaking sponge cakes (e.g., in Black Forest cakes), in fruit sauces, creams, chocolate-based desserts, as well as in drinks and flambéing. It should be stored in a tightly sealed bottle, in a cool, dark place, away from heat sources; due to its high alcohol content, it is durable after opening, although it retains its aroma best for several years.
