Fresh cucumber
Description
Fresh cucumber is a crunchy, juicy, and slightly sweet variety of vegetable with light green flesh and a thin, smooth skin often covered with delicate stripes. Its taste is refreshing, slightly grassy, and very neutral, which makes it pair well with many ingredients, from salads and sandwiches to cold soups, marinades, and dips. Nutritionally, cucumber is composed of about 95% water, provides very few calories (about 15 kcal/100 g), certain amounts of vitamin K, vitamin C, potassium, and fiber when consumed with the skin, as well as antioxidants. It supports hydration, light digestion, and weight control. Store cucumbers in the refrigerator at a temperature of about 4–7°C, preferably in the vegetable drawer, wrapped in a paper towel or in a perforated package; do not keep them next to ethylene-producing fruits, and use within 2–3 days after cutting.
