Chili powder
Description
Chili powder is a finely ground, intensely red powder with a distinct heat, often with fruity or slightly smoky notes, depending on the variety. It adds a spicy aroma to dishes and quickly enhances flavor, which is why it is used sparingly, often briefly sautéed in fat to release its full aroma. Nutritionally, it is low in calories, rich in capsaicin, carotenoids, and vitamins A and C, providing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects; capsaicin may support metabolism and alleviate pain, although sensitive individuals should limit their intake. It pairs perfectly with Mexican and Asian cuisine, stews, marinades, sauces, and spice blends. Store in a sealed, dry, dark place away from heat and moisture, and it is best used within 6–12 months to maintain its aroma.
