Unsalted pistachios
Description
Unsalted pistachios are light green, slightly creamy nuts in a thin, beige shell with a subtly sweet-nutty, buttery flavor and a pleasant crunch. They are rich in protein, fiber, and healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, as well as vitamin B6, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, and antioxidants (lutein, zeaxanthin), which promote heart health, blood sugar control, and a feeling of fullness while being relatively moderate in calories compared to other nuts. In the kitchen, pistachios work well as a standalone snack, an addition to salads, yogurts, baked goods, ice creams, pesto, or as a crumble for meats and fish, as well as an ingredient in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes. Store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place; they will stay fresh for several months in the refrigerator and up to a year in the freezer, avoiding moisture and light.
