Dried chili flakes

🌱 Vegetarian 🌿 Vegan

Description

Dried chili flakes are thin, brittle pieces of peppers with an intensely red to brick color, often with trace seeds. The flavor is distinctly spicy, with fruity notes and sometimes a slight smokiness, and the level of heat depends on the variety used for production. Due to their concentrated heat and convenient form, they give dishes a quick, even kick; they pair perfectly with pizza, pasta, sauces, soups, marinades, spice blends, and Mexican or Asian cuisine, and they are also great for making chili oil or homemade rubs. The flakes are a source of capsaicin, vitamins A and C, and antioxidants, which support the immune system and have anti-inflammatory properties as well as an overall impact on metabolism. To preserve their aroma and heat, store them in an airtight, opaque container in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture; under these conditions, they typically maintain quality for 6–12 months, and grinding them just before use will restore their full aroma.
