Soy sauce (tamari)

🌱 Vegetarian 🌿 Vegan

Description

Tamari soy sauce is a dark brown, thicker, and clearer variant of soy sauce with an intense, rich umami flavor, subtle sweetness, and lower acidity than traditional shoyu. Originating from Japan, tamari often has a fuller, less overpowering taste, making it perfect as a dip, ingredient for marinades and sauces, addition to stir-fries, soups, dressings, or glazes for meats and vegetables. Nutritionally, tamari is low in calories, providing small amounts of protein and amino acids formed during fermentation, as well as bioactive compounds from soy, but it has a high sodium content, so it’s best to use it sparingly. Natural tamari can be gluten-free, but always check the label. Store the bottle in a cool, dark place, and after opening, it’s best kept in the refrigerator — it will retain its aroma and freshness for several months.
