Canned tomatoes (whole peeled)

🌱 Vegetarian 🌿 Vegan

Description

Canned tomatoes (whole pelati) are peeled, most often Italian tomatoes with an intense, sweet-and-sour flavor and a deep red color, retaining a meaty texture and natural aroma. They are a source of lycopene—a powerful antioxidant associated with a lower risk of heart disease and certain cancers—as well as vitamin C, potassium, and fiber with low calorie content, which supports immunity, heart function, and digestion. In the kitchen, pelati are great for sauces, soups, stews, roasts, and braised dishes, as well as for blending into passata or tomato sauces; they pair well with herbs, olive oil, and white wine. Store in a dry, cool place before opening; after opening, transfer to a glass or plastic container, refrigerate, and use within 3–4 days or freeze in portions to preserve flavor and nutritional value.
