Chopped walnuts
Description
Chopped walnuts have a warm, buttery flavor with a slightly bitter, earthy note and a slightly oily surface; in the form of small, irregular pieces, their light brown flesh adds texture and a decorative touch to dishes. They are rich in unsaturated fatty acids, especially alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), plant protein, fiber, B vitamins, vitamin E, and minerals such as magnesium and phosphorus, as well as polyphenols and antioxidants that support heart health, brain function, and have anti-inflammatory effects. In the kitchen, they work well in salads, bread, cakes, granola, pesto, pasta dishes, and as an addition to cheeses or meats, enhancing flavor and texture. They should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, and for longer shelf life and to prevent rancidity, it is best to keep them in the refrigerator or freezer; chopped walnuts absorb odors more quickly, so avoid storing them in open packages.
