White rum
Description
White rum is a clear, transparent alcohol with a delicate, sweet flavor profile featuring notes of sugar cane, vanilla, and citrus, along with a relatively smooth finish. It has a distinct alcoholic aroma but is lighter and less oaky than aged rums, making it a versatile ingredient in cooking and bartending. Nutritionally, rum mainly provides calories from alcohol—about 70 kcal in 30 ml—and contains virtually no protein, fat, vitamins, or minerals. Due to its ethanol content, it should be consumed in moderation; in the kitchen, it works well as a flavorful addition to cocktails, desserts (cakes, macerated fruits), flambéing, marinades, and sauces, especially in Caribbean cuisine. It should be stored tightly closed in a cool, dark place, without the need for refrigeration, away from direct light and high temperatures.
