Cream cheese (e.g. Philadelphia type)
Description
Cream cheese, like Philadelphia, is a smooth, uniform mass with a creamy, soft texture and a pale cream color. The flavor is mild, slightly tangy with a delicate buttery and creamy note, making it a versatile ingredient for both sweet and savory dishes. In the kitchen, it works well as a base spread for bread and bagels, an ingredient in cheesecakes, creams, and toppings, as well as for dips, sauces, fillings, and light pâtés, pairing well with herbs, powdered sugar, or smoked salmon. Nutritionally, cream cheese provides protein, calcium, and vitamins A and D, with full-fat versions having higher fat and calorie content, while light versions have reduced calories. Some products contain starter cultures beneficial for gut flora. Store cream cheese in the refrigerator in its original packaging or an airtight container, using it within 5–10 days of opening and adhering to the expiration date.
