Rum (optional)
Description
Rum (optional) is an aromatic, alcoholic extract with a varied flavor and appearance: from clear, delicate white rum to dark, amber, and mahogany rums with notes of molasses, caramel, vanilla, and spices. Its alcohol strength gives dishes a warm, sweet-spicy depth, even in small amounts. As an alcoholic product, rum provides energy but few nutrients; dark rums contain trace amounts of polyphenols. In the kitchen, it is used for desserts, sauces, marinades, flambéing, and flavoring cakes, creams, and fruits — it pairs wonderfully with chocolate, coconut, bananas, and spices. It should be stored in a tightly sealed bottle, in a cool and dark place; it does not require refrigeration, but once opened, it gradually loses its aroma.
