Ground flaxseed
Description
Ground flaxseed has a delicate, nutty flavor and a slightly oily texture; its appearance is a fine, golden-brown powder that easily absorbs moisture. It is a rich source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA, omega-3), fiber, plant protein, lignans, and minerals such as magnesium and phosphorus, which help regulate cholesterol levels, improve intestinal peristalsis, provide anti-inflammatory effects, and support the cardiovascular system. In the kitchen, ground flaxseed is suitable for yogurts, smoothies, oatmeal, baked goods, pancakes, as a thickener for soups and sauces, and as a vegan egg substitute when mixed with water. Store it in an airtight container, away from light and heat, preferably in the refrigerator or freezer, and consume relatively quickly (within a few weeks) to avoid the fats going rancid.
