Smoked salmon
Description
Smoked salmon has a delicate, slightly salty, and distinctly smoky flavor, along with a silky, translucent texture in an intense orange-pink color. Thinly sliced pieces are juicy and soft, and the aroma of smoke provides an elegant contrast to the natural fattiness of the fish. The nutritional values of smoked salmon include high-quality protein, a wealth of omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin D and B12, and selenium, which promote heart health, brain function, and the immune system; at the same time, the product can be quite salty, so salt intake should be monitored. In the kitchen, smoked salmon pairs perfectly with baguettes, sandwiches, creamy spreads, salads, pasta, and egg dishes, as well as serving as an elegant appetizer on canapés or tartines. It should be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature of 0–4°C, preferably in its original vacuum-sealed packaging until the expiration date; once opened, consume within 48 hours. It can be frozen for a maximum of 2–3 months, keeping in mind that the texture may change after thawing.
