Coconut flakes (for decoration)
Description
Coconut flakes are small, white flakes with a slightly fibrous texture and a sweet-nutty, tropical aroma that adds freshness and lightness to dishes. Their appearance makes them perfect for decorating cakes, desserts, and drinks, providing a subtle contrast in color and texture. Nutritionally, coconut flakes provide medium-chain saturated fats (MCT), fiber, and minerals such as manganese, copper, and iron, which support metabolism and bone health; however, they are relatively high in calories, so it's best to consume them in moderation. They pair well with baked goods, desserts, muesli, smoothies, Asian and Caribbean dishes, and can be used as a coating for fish and chicken. Store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place; for longer shelf life, keep them in the refrigerator or freezer to prevent rancidity.
