Toothpicks
Description
Toothpicks are small, thin sticks usually made of wood, bamboo, plastic, or metal, with pointed ends and a natural, subdued appearance; they do not have a distinctive taste — wood may have a subtle, woody aroma, but they are not intended for consumption. In terms of nutritional value, they provide virtually no calories or nutrients and are not an edible product; their health benefits are indirect — they facilitate hygienic serving of snacks, help control portions, and minimize hand contact with food, but care should be taken to avoid accidental swallowing and to watch out for splinters. Toothpicks are perfect for skewering appetizers, decorating sandwiches and cocktails, securing rolls, or checking baked goods; plastic and metal variants work well with moist dishes. Store them in a dry, cool place in a closed container, away from moisture and children.
