Rose flavoring
Description
Rose aroma has an intense, floral scent and a subtly sweet, slightly fruity taste reminiscent of fresh rose petals; it is most commonly found in the form of a clear liquid or syrup with a light pink color, and less frequently as an oil essence. As a flavoring additive, it has negligible nutritional value—typically a small amount of calories and trace amounts of phenolic compounds that may exhibit antioxidant effects and mild anti-inflammatory properties, as well as having a calming effect on the nervous system in traditional uses. In the kitchen, rose aroma pairs wonderfully with desserts, baked goods, creams, ice creams, beverages, and cocktails, also proving effective in Middle Eastern and Indian cuisine as an elegant counterpoint to spices and in small amounts in sauces or fruit salads. It should be stored tightly closed in a cool, dark place, away from light and heat sources; natural extracts are best kept in the refrigerator and used sparingly, according to the manufacturer's instructions.
