Unrefined brown sugar
Description
Unrefined brown sugar is a crystalline sugar ranging in color from light to dark brown, with visible moisture and small clumps of molasses. It is characterized by a full, slightly caramel flavor with hints of toffee and a subtle spiciness that adds depth to dishes compared to white sugar. Nutritionally, it mainly consists of sucrose and provides energy in the form of calories, while containing small amounts of minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, and iron, as well as trace antioxidants; however, it should be treated like added sugar and used in moderation. In the kitchen, it works excellently in baking, caramelizing, for beverages, sauces, marinades, and dressings, where it enhances flavor and color. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from moisture; if it becomes hard or clumpy, it can be gently crushed or lightly warmed.
