Vanilla extract
Description
Vanilla extract is a dark brown, aromatic liquid with an intense, sweet, vanilla-caramel scent, featuring floral and creamy notes that enrich the flavor of dishes with subtle depth. Used in small amounts, it has negligible nutritional and caloric values; the main components are aromatic compounds like vanillin and alcohol in commercial extracts. The extract exhibits mild antioxidant properties and may allow for a reduction in added sugar due to its intense aroma, although it does not replace a balanced diet. In the kitchen, it pairs well with baked goods, creams, ice creams, puddings, coffee, cocktails, and fruit desserts, and it complements chocolate, almonds, and citrus fruits perfectly. It should be stored in a tightly sealed bottle in a cool, dark place, away from heat sources; refrigeration is not necessary, but using dark glass and occasionally shaking before use will prolong the aroma.
