Description
Anchovy fillets in oil are small, thin strips with a dark silver hue and a shiny finish, offering an intense, salty, and umami flavor with a hint of fish depth and a soothing oily texture from the oil. They are aromatic and concentrated, so a small amount is enough to add character to a dish. Nutritionally, they provide valuable protein, omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA), vitamin D, selenium, and calcium, which support heart health, the nervous system, and bones; at the same time, they contain a significant amount of sodium, so it's best to use them in moderation. They work well in sauces (e.g., puttanesca), for spreads, salads, pizza, marinades, and braised vegetables, enhancing the flavor of dishes. Unopened, store in a cool, dark place; once opened, keep covered in oil in an airtight jar in the refrigerator and use within 2–3 weeks.
