Sunflower sprouts
Description
Sunflower sprouts have a fresh, slightly nutty flavor with a delicate sweetness and a crunchy texture; they resemble small green-white shoots with visible cotyledons, adding a vibrant, aesthetic touch to dishes. They are a concentrated source of plant protein, healthy fats (mainly polyunsaturated), fiber, vitamin E, B vitamins, and minerals such as magnesium, iron, and zinc, as well as enzymes and antioxidants that may support the immune system, digestion, and skin health. Sunflower sprouts are perfect for salads, sandwiches, wraps, smoothies, yogurts, soups, and Asian dishes as a crunchy topping; they can also be blended into pesto or added to bread and baked goods. Store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container lined with a paper towel, using them within a few days; for longer storage, they can be frozen, and before use, they should be thoroughly drained to avoid mold.
