Gherkins (pickled cucumbers)
Description
Gherkins (pickled cucumbers) are small, firm cucumbers with an intense green color and a crunchy texture, with a distinctly sour-salty taste complemented by a hint of sweetness and a spice aroma. They can appear unevenly wrinkled, elongated, and shiny due to the brine, making them an attractive addition to a plate. They are low in calories, contain water, small amounts of fiber, as well as vitamins K and minerals, and the vinegar in the brine may support digestion; however, they have a high sodium content, so it is advisable to consume them in moderation. Gherkins are perfect for sandwiches, burgers, salads, appetizers, grated sauces, and potato salad, as well as a snack. Store in an airtight jar in brine; they last longer in a cool, dark place when unopened, and after opening, keep in the refrigerator and use within a few weeks.
