Limoncello liqueur (optional)
Description
Limoncello is an intensely citrusy, sweet-and-sour liqueur with a bright yellow color and a slightly oily, syrupy consistency, bringing a fresh aroma of lemon zest. It has a distinct, concentrated citrus note that balances sugar and alcohol, which is why it is often an optional addition in recipes to enhance flavor. In terms of nutritional value, limoncello mainly provides calories from alcohol and sugar, with small amounts of aromatic compounds and essential oils from the zest; in moderate doses, it may aid digestion, but it is not a source of significant vitamins or minerals. In the kitchen, limoncello is used as a digestif, an addition to desserts (ice creams, creams, cakes), for marinades and sauces, and in cocktails, where it emphasizes citrus notes. It should be stored tightly closed, preferably in the refrigerator or freezer, away from light; a good quality liqueur can retain its aroma for many months, and it is advisable to give it a slight shake before serving.
