Lightly salted cucumber
Description
A lightly fermented cucumber, ogórek małosolny has a crunchy texture, a light green, wrinkled skin, and a slightly cloudy brine. The flavor is fresh, slightly tangy with a distinct saltiness, often accompanied by the aroma of dill and garlic, making it a refreshing addition to dishes. It is low in calories and mainly consists of water, providing small amounts of vitamins (especially K and C), potassium, and fiber. Due to fermentation, it contains live cultures of lactic acid bacteria that support the gut microbiome, but it is worth noting its moderate sodium content. In the kitchen, it pairs well with sandwiches, salads, meats, and potatoes, as well as serving as a snack or an addition to tartares. It is best stored in a tightly sealed jar in the refrigerator, submerged in brine, which maintains its crunchiness; freezing is not recommended, and the optimal consumption time is a few days to about two weeks.
