Brook trout

Description

Brook trout is a small, slender freshwater fish with a delicate, slightly nutty flavor and soft, light pink to white flesh that easily flakes apart. Its skin may have characteristic spots and an olive-gray coloration, making it visually appealing on the plate. It contains beneficial omega-3 fatty acids, as well as high-quality protein, vitamin D, and B12, and selenium, which support heart health, cognitive functions, and the immune system. In the kitchen, brook trout is well-suited for baking whole, grilling, frying in butter, smoking, or stewing, and pairs well with lemon, dill, herb butter, root vegetables, and salads. Fresh fish should be stored chilled on ice or in the coldest part of the refrigerator and used within 1–2 days; for longer storage, freeze tightly at −18°C and thaw slowly in the refrigerator.
