Dried plums (prunes)
Description
Dried plums are soft, dark purple fruits with a sweet-tart, deeply fruity flavor and a slightly caramel note, along with a thick, shiny skin. They are rich in fiber, natural sugars, potassium, vitamin K, and antioxidants; they provide energy and support digestion thanks to sorbitol, and regular consumption may help maintain healthy gut flora and electrolyte balance. Due to their calorie content, it's worth controlling portions, but the benefits for the digestive system and bones are well documented. Culinarily, dried plums are suitable for baking, fillings, stews, tagines, salads, compotes, and smoothies, as well as being enjoyed as a standalone snack. They can be soaked before use to soften them. They should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place; in warmer climates or for longer storage, it's advisable to keep them in the refrigerator.
