Dried marjoram
Description
Dried marjoram is a delicate, greenish-gray herb with a mild, sweet, and slightly camphor-like aroma with citrus notes; its flaked or ground form easily releases its scent when crushed. It contains phytochemical compounds and essential oils, as well as trace amounts of vitamins (A, C) and minerals (iron, calcium), which contribute to its antioxidant properties and digestive support, as well as mild anti-inflammatory effects. In the kitchen, marjoram pairs well with soups, especially sour rye and bean soups, meat dishes and cold cuts, cabbage dishes, potatoes, sauces, and fillings; it complements thyme, coriander, and garlic nicely, and it is best to add it early during cooking to enhance the aroma. Store in a sealed, dark, and cool place, preferably in a jar, away from moisture and light; for optimal flavor, use within 6–12 months.
