Tahini
Description
Tahini is a thick paste made from ground sesame seeds with a creamy, smooth consistency and a light golden or darker brown color depending on the roasting level. The taste is nutty, slightly bitter, and buttery, with distinct sesame notes; it pairs well with both sour and sweet additions, making it a staple in hummus, sauces, dressings, marinades, dips, as well as desserts and cocktails. Nutritionally, tahini is rich in unsaturated fats, plant protein, fiber, and minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, and copper, as well as B vitamins and antioxidants, which support heart health, bone health, and satiety. Once opened, it is best stored in an airtight jar in the refrigerator, stirred before use if the oil separates, and consumed within a few months for optimal freshness.
