Ladyfingers / sponge fingers
Description
Ladyfingers, also known as sponge fingers, are light, elongated cookies with a golden, slightly crunchy crust and a soft, porous interior, featuring a subtly sweet, eggy-vanilla flavor. Their structure absorbs liquids well, making them soft and aromatic when soaked in coffee, liqueur, or syrup. Nutritionally, ladyfingers are a source of simple carbohydrates and calories with relatively low fat and protein content, also providing small amounts of B vitamins and minerals from eggs and flour. They can be a light snack or part of a low-fat diet, but it's important to control portions due to refined sugars. In the kitchen, they work well as a base for tiramisu, layered desserts, served with creams, ice creams, or for dipping in coffee and tea. They should be stored tightly in a dry place; longer storage requires freezing in an airtight container, and soaked cookies should be consumed quickly.
