Blueberries
Description
Blueberries are small, round fruits with smooth, blue-purple skin and juicy, sweet-tart flesh with a delicate forest aroma that adds freshness to both desserts and savory dishes. They are low in calories, rich in fiber, vitamin C, B vitamins, and minerals such as manganese; they also contain strong antioxidants (anthocyanins) that support the circulatory system, brain functions, and immunity, as well as help combat oxidative stress. In the kitchen, blueberries pair wonderfully with yogurts, cereals, oatmeal, salads, ricotta or goat cheeses, and as an addition to cakes, sauces, and preserves. To maintain freshness, store them in the refrigerator in a flat, breathable container without washing until use, and remove any spoiled fruits; for longer storage, freeze them spread out individually.
