Strawberry
Description
Strawberry is a juicy, intensely red fruit with a sweet-tart flavor and a characteristic aroma of summer berries; the outer skin is covered with tiny, golden seeds, and the flesh can be firm or soft depending on ripeness. They are low in calories, rich in vitamin C, fiber, manganese, and antioxidants (anthocyanins, ellagic acid), which support immunity, vascular health, skin, and digestion, and have anti-inflammatory effects and protective properties against oxidative stress. In the kitchen, strawberries are suitable for desserts, smoothies, salads, jams, sauces for meats and cheeses, and as an addition to yogurt, ice cream, cakes, and chocolate; they pair well with mint, basil, vanilla, balsamic vinegar, and citrus fruits. Store them unwashed, in a single layer in an air-accessible container in the refrigerator, and consume within 2–3 days, or freeze for longer storage after spreading them out on a tray.
