Chili powder
Description
Chili powder is finely ground fruit of chili peppers with an intense, spicy flavor that has hints of sweetness and a slight bitterness, often with a smoky accent depending on the variety. It has a characteristic red-brown color and a loose, easily dispersible texture that quickly releases aroma when added to dishes. It is low in calories, contains capsaicin responsible for the heat, which has anti-inflammatory properties and may boost metabolism; it also provides antioxidants and trace amounts of vitamins A and C as well as minerals. In the kitchen, it works well in Mexican and Asian dishes, in sauces, marinades, soups, stews, and vegetables, where it enhances flavor and adds warmth. It should be stored in a sealed container, in a dry, cool, and dark place, away from moisture and heat sources; for best freshness, use within 6–12 months.
