Dark rum or brandy
Description
Dark rum and brandy are golden-amber, visually deep spirits with a rich aroma of oak, caramel, and spices; rum often features notes of molasses, toffee, and spices, while brandy has a fruity, apricot-plum note derived from distilled grapes. In taste, they are full-bodied, slightly sweet, and warm, providing a long, warming finish. In terms of nutritional value, they are a source of calories from ethanol and residual sugars, offering no significant vitamins or minerals, although aging in barrels yields trace phenolic compounds; health benefits are limited and depend on moderate consumption. In the kitchen, they work excellently in cakes, sauces, marinades, glazes, flambé, and cocktails, enhancing the aroma of desserts and meats. They should be stored tightly closed in a cool, dark place, preferably upright, away from direct sunlight; once opened, they maintain their durability due to the high alcohol content, but gradually lose some aroma and may evaporate.
