Curry powder
Description
Curry powder is an aromatic, finely ground spice blend with a characteristic golden-yellow to brown color and a complex, spicy-sweet flavor with notes of turmeric, coriander, cumin, mustard, ginger, and pepper. The intensity and composition of the aromas depend on the producer, but generally, the spice provides a warm, earthy, and slightly bitter accent along with a pleasant, spicy aroma that is released during cooking. Nutritionally, curry powder provides small amounts of fiber, vitamins, and minerals, as well as strong bioactive compounds, especially curcumin from turmeric, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties; other ingredients may support digestion and metabolism. Typical uses include rice dishes, vegetables, meats and sauces, soups, marinades, and dressings, where it adds depth of flavor and color. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark, and dry place, away from moisture and direct light, and use within a few months for optimal aroma.
