Ground nutmeg
Description
Nutmeg (ground) has a warm, sweet-spicy aroma with a hint of nutty-woody and a slight spiciness; in powder form, it is fine, beige-brown, and intensely fragrant. From a dietary perspective, it provides small amounts of minerals, primarily manganese and iron, essential oils, and compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties; in small doses, it aids digestion and may alleviate nausea, while in large amounts it contains myristicin, so it should be used sparingly (avoid excessive doses during pregnancy). Nutmeg is suitable for both desserts (cakes, creams, baked apples) and savory dishes (stews, potato dishes, béchamel sauces, curries, soups), as well as for drinks like eggnog or flavored coffee. Store in an airtight container, in a cool, dark place away from moisture and light; for the best aroma, use within 6–12 months, while whole seeds stay fresh longer.
