Pear (firm)
Description
The hard pear has a crunchy, firm texture and a smooth skin that ranges in color from green to yellow to a red blush; its flavor can be subtly sweet and sour with floral notes, making it refreshing both raw and after cooking. It looks attractive due to its regular, slightly conical shape and dense flesh. It is a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants with a low calorie count, which supports digestion, weight control, and heart health. The water and nutrient content also aids in hydration and cell regeneration. In the kitchen, the hard pear works well in salads, served with cheeses and nuts, in desserts, baked or stewed, and as an accompaniment to meats, especially pork or duck. Store it in a cool place or in the refrigerator to slow down ripening; if you want to speed up softening, leave it at room temperature in a paper bag with a banana.
