Apples (e.g. gray renet)
Description
Apples, such as the gray renet, usually have a thin skin with a green-yellow hue, firm, aromatic flesh that is slightly tart with a subtle sweetness; their flavor is intense, well detectable even after cooking. The gray renet stands out with its strong aroma and dense structure, making it excellent for cooking and baking. Nutritionally, apples are low in calories, rich in fiber (pectins), vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants, which support digestion, lower cholesterol levels, and have anti-inflammatory effects. In the kitchen, they work well both raw in salads and snacks, as well as in desserts, purees, jams, cakes, sauces for meats, and juices. To maintain freshness, store apples in a cool (0–4°C), humid place or in the refrigerator, separately from ethylene-sensitive vegetables; remove damaged ones to avoid shortening the shelf life of the others.
