Dark rum
Description
Dark rum is an aromatic spirit with a deep amber-mahogany color and a viscous consistency, featuring distinct notes of caramel, molasses, toffee, oak vanilla, and spices; the flavor can be full-bodied, sweetish, with a slight bitterness and a smoky finish resulting from aging in barrels. Nutritionally, rum mainly provides energy in the form of alcohol (calories), contains virtually no protein, fats, or fiber, and trace amounts of micronutrients; certain phenolic compounds from the barrels may have antioxidant properties, but any potential health benefits arise only with moderate, controlled consumption. In the kitchen, dark rum pairs wonderfully with desserts (creams, sauces, cakes), marinades for meats, glazes, compotes, as well as for flambéing and classic cocktails. It should be stored tightly closed in a cool, dark place, upright, away from heat sources; after opening, the aroma may mellow over time, but the product does not spoil quickly.
