Serrano Ham

Description

Jamón Serrano is a Spanish ham delicacy with an intense, salty-sweet flavor featuring nutty notes and a distinct umami. It has a deep pink-red color with marbled fat streaks that give it a velvety texture; the slices are very thin, almost transparent. Nutritionally, it provides high-quality protein, monounsaturated fatty acids (especially oleic), B vitamins, and minerals such as iron and zinc, which support muscles and metabolism. However, moderation is advised due to its sodium and calorie content. Jamón Serrano works great on a cheese board and in tapas, in sandwiches, salads, with melon, on pizza or pasta, and as an addition to tapas and croquetas, always sliced very thinly. Store the whole piece in a cool, dry place, covered with a cloth or paper, and keep the slices in the refrigerator in an airtight container, consuming them within a few days; it is best to avoid long freezing, which deteriorates the texture.
